As part of the partnership that Winn-Dixie store No. 228 Store Director David Strachan forged with nearby Charles Drew Elementary School, the store hosted a Math Night Jan. 29.
It was nothing new for the 39-year Winn-Dixie veteran. Strachan has developed a flair for engaging his community, a passion he now shares with his Pompano Beach, Fla. neighbors.
Strachan uses the knowledge he has gathered over the years building relationships throughout Palm Beach and Broward counties. He’s versed in many store positions, first as a front end specialist and later as a store director. No matter the location, Strachan says he’s always seen positive results when he’s been involved in the community.
“You can see the impact from the customers, as well as the associates. It’s a way to bring our community closer and everyone benefits from it,” said Strachan. “Whether it’s inviting students into your store for a Math Night or becoming involved in a local organization, it’s rewarding to go beyond expectations and be a good neighbor.”
Strachan has always viewed himself as a people person, taking pride in interacting with his customers and associates. His openness with his store team led him to his connection with Charles Drew Elementary School Principal Angeline Flowers after an associate informed him the school was seeking partners. Flowers said she is grateful Strachan’s team embraced her students and she touted his enthusiasm to build on their relationship.
“David has been helpful from our very first conversation and we are so grateful for his eagerness to support Charles Drew Elementary School,” she said. “He personally welcomed all of the families during the event and even presented a custom-made cake. Everything he has done makes this partnership valuable and we can’t wait to get to know David more as we continue to build our relationship.”
