Winn-Dixie store No. 2366 Store Director Rick Romani, Seafood Lead Herb Mackey, Service Lead Gillian Ledford and Stock Clerk Trevor Schrum continued to support the company’s mission to fight hunger in their community by volunteering with the Treasure Coast Food Bank during a mobile food pantry event at Vero Christian Church.
The associates joined other Vero Beach, Florida community volunteers and food bank staff to help set up distribution stations and to provide food to more than 200 families in need.
Romani’s district team has teamed up with the food bank for several years and he said he’s seen the difference the organization has made in the community. Along with providing food donations throughout the year and during the holidays, he and other district associates have joined the food bank to assist at several events. When the food bank recently asked the store for assistance, Romani called on his associates who were eager to help their neighbors.
“Vero Christian Church is right down the road from our store, so by joining the Treasure Coast Food Bank we’ve been able to serve many of our regular customers who need a helping hand,” said Romani. “It’s always a humbling experience to give back to the community and I’m proud to be joined by my dedicated associates, who are just as passionate about helping those in need.”
Romani and his team arrived early to help unload the Treasure Coast Food Bank truck and set up various stations for families to be served. As cars drove through the mobile food pantry, they were provided items such as juices, milk, perishable items and more, some of which had been donated by Winn-Dixie stores. Treasure Coast Food Bank Chief Executive Officer Judith Cruz said dedicated partners such as Romani and Winn-Dixie allow the organization to continue to serve the Treasure Coast community.
“We were able to serve hundreds of families in our community who may not know where their next meal is coming from and it’s thanks to volunteers like Rick and his team that make it possible,” she said. “These programs are vital to battle hunger in our community and we thank Winn-Dixie for sharing our passion and commitment for feeding our neighbors.”
