Deerfield-Windsor School football players will have a cooler season thanks to the work of the director of their neighborhood Harveys store No. 1696 in Leesburg, Ga.

Harveys store No. 1696 in Leesburg, Georgia, felt the heat from August’s rising temperatures and decided to do some “cool” things for customers.

Store Director Jeff Carr said when he found out that Deerfield Windsor School was in need of some items for the upcoming football season, he made contact with school representatives to find out what the team’s exact needs were. He then began a campaign to contact community members who might be able to help make the team’s 2015 season a little less stressful.

Powerade agreed to help, and representatives of the sports drink brand donated towels, powdered mix and bottles totaling more than $1,000 so the team can stay hydrated all season long as they practice and take on opponents in the hot Georgia sun.

“The high school students, staff and parents were very appreciative of the support from Powerade and Harveys,” Carr said. “It’s a very local community and a lot of people attend the football games. We just wanted to reach out and see what we could do to help give back to the school.”

Carr and his store team saw an opportunity to give back to all customers as temperatures rose by hosting a Saturday coke float event on Aug. 22. The team set up a table and a sign advertising “FREE Coke Floats” outside the store to attract customers as they came and left.

“The customers could not believe that we were giving them away for free and kept asking if they could donate. Of course, we told them ‘no way, this is just something we are doing to appreciate our customers,’” Carr said.
