For the second year in a row, Winn-Dixie store No. 237 Store Director Norman Torres joined forces with Sweetwater Baptist Church during their week-long summer camp for underprivileged kids in Miami.

As the organization’s only business partner, Torres and his store team demonstrated their commitment to the community by providing much-needed food and refreshments to campers and volunteers from June 23 - 29.

The attendance at this year’s camp was the largest it has ever had, organizers said. Sweetwater Baptist Church relied on donations and volunteers to support more than 150 children during a week filled with group activities, games and outdoor fun. To keep up with the organization’s needs, Torres increased Winn-Dixie’s support to cover meals and snacks.

“It fills us with pride to support an organization that provides local families with a service they may not otherwise be able to afford,” said Torres. “It’s a great feeling to be able to make a positive impact in a child’s life – helping them have a place to go during the summertime brings a smile to their face.”

Church members and staff invited Torres back to Sweetwater Baptist Church June 29 to recognize him for his support of local youth.

“As our camp continues to grow every year, Winn-Dixie has stepped up and provided items that have helped make our program a success,” said Sweetwater Baptist Church Pastor Felix Valdivia. “Norman has shown his commitment to the youth in our community, and we couldn’t be more grateful for everything he has done.”
