Cory Weissman, director of Winn-Dixie store No. 291 in Aventura, Fla. continues to work to strengthen the store’s relationship with the surrounding Jewish community.

Weissman has forged many partnerships, most recently with the Chabad of Golden Beach’s youth group, Teen Hub. The partnership was dedicated to supporting the group’s mission to eliminate hunger in South Florida, and the resulting kosher food scavenger hunt benefited those in need.

Weissman welcomed the Teen Hub group to his store to raise funds and awareness for their tzedakah, or “charitable giving” in Hebrew. Weissman invited Rabbi Chay Amar and the youth group to visit the store, meet the Kosher Supervisor (Meshgiah) Pesach Rotenbergand to get a personal tour of the store’s kosher departments.

“These teens are supporting a cause they believe in and we were more than thrilled to be able to work with them to create this hands-on experience,” said Weissman. “Not only does it make our team feel great to interact with our neighbors, it also gives us great pride knowing our partnership with the Chabad of Golden Beach is making an impact on needy families in South Florida.”

After their personal store tour, the youth group gathered for a special treat and kosher cupcake decorating session. To conclude their visit, the group purchased more than $1,000 in kosher products with funds they had raised to support a local kosher food bank.

“It really reinforces a sense of community when a business like Winn-Dixie showsthese young adults such tremendous support,” Rabbi Amar said. “This was a great educational experience as every associate that was involved made this trip an engaging visit our youth group will remember.”
