Residents of the Lower Algiers Community Center enjoyed healthy samplings and wellness screenings at store no. 1426 in Algiers, La.

Winn-Dixie store no. 1426 in Algiers, La. opened its doors Jan. 8 to customers wanting to see its newly-remodeled look.

The store is thesecond of its kind in an area of New Orleans called The West Bank. Store No 1426 joins store No. 1405 in nearby Gretna, La. in featuring the latest in store design, which has been popular with customers.

“The refreshed layout and expanded offerings of the new store give our customers the amenities needed to have a great shopping experience,” said Mark Fleming, store No. 1426 store director. “We were able to give our neighbors the atmosphere of a specialty grocer with the personalized service of a neighborhood market. This is an exciting time for the Algiers community.”

Store No. 1426 now provides an enhanced bakery and expanded produce department, highlighting natural and organic varieties. Customers will also enjoy new chef-inspired meals, custom-designed for on-the-go shoppers, including a new sub station specializing in made-to-order “Po-Boys.”

Winn-Dixie shoppers, organizations and the nearby community were invited to visit the new store Jan. 9 for an event that emphasized getting healthier in the New Year. “New Year, New Store, New You” offered healthy food sampling including freshly-cut fruit, turkey salad, granola, cheese, turkey bacon and other healthy items. The Pharmacy Department provided preventative health screenings to customers with Winn-Dixie Reward Cards. Nutrition tours were also available that day.

Residents from Lower Algiers Community Center were brought to the store to take part in the screenings and sampling. The event concluded with a $100 Winn-Dixie gift card giveaway, which a member of the Lower Algiers Community Center won.
