Winn-Dixie No. 411 in Clanton, Alabama donated more than 1,000 pounds of dog food to the Chilton County Humane Society as a result of the Feed the Love community donation program.

Customers were invited to donate $5 toward a bag of dog food during the program. Associate Laura Smitherman was the top cashier in the company for the number of donations she collected.

“People are more likely to contribute to community donation programs when they are approached in a friendly way and understand what they are donating to,” said Smitherman.

Store Director Jeff Wax presented the dog food donation to Chilton County Humane Society during a donation presentation at store No. 411.

“It’s important to build relationships with people in the communities Winn-Dixie serves,” said Wax. “We have so many people in our neighborhoods who come and shop in this store, and I think it is always good when we can give back in some way.”

The Chilton County Humane Society will typically use 40-60 pounds of dog food each week, and Director Kimberly Rucks says Winn-Dixie’s donation is a huge help.

“We are very blessed Winn-Dixie did this for us,” said Rucks. “We are blown away by the efforts of Jeff and the associates. It’s really great to see people from the community step up and help.”
