Citrus County, Florida Winn-Dixie stores teamed up with the school district for the annual “Stuff the Bus” school supply drive to ready young minds for the upcoming school year.

The annual Stuff the Bus drive ensures that students in need begin the school year equipped with the supplies they need to learn. Buses stopped at Winn-Dixie stores in Crystal River, Inverness, Beverly Hills and Homosassa, Florida, and customers and community residents were encouraged to donate school supplies and “stuff” the bus with as many needed materials as possible.

While customers did their weekly grocery shopping, they also purchased school supplies at the register to donate as they left the stores. Supplies donated included notebook paper, spiral notebooks, pencils, pens, crayons, scissors, glue, colored pencils, rulers and more.

“The program was very well received within the community,” said Crystal River Winn-Dixie store No. 2421 Store Director Wayne Dupler. “There was a large number of customers and associates who actually made purchases at the store, as well as brought items to donate.”

Once the buses were filled, the supplies were distributed to Citrus County schools and given to students who were most in need.
