After transferring to Winn-Dixie store No. 231 in Hialeah, Florida, Director Henry Ledesma went on tour to forge relationships with his store’s community.

During one of his stops, neighbors at the nearby Latitude at the Moors apartment complex asked him to help support families in need during a community event Sept. 28 to benefit the Feeding South Florida food bank.

Ledesma helped raise awareness of the festivities by providing Latitude at the Moors management with Winn-Dixie paper bags that residents could fill with donated food items and return throughout the afternoon.

“It was very heartwarming to see so many Winn-Dixie bags filled with items to benefit Feeding South Florida,” he said. “We had countless residents share their appreciation for seeing their neighborhood Winn-Dixie join them in the fight against hunger.”

More than 250 attendees took part in the afternoon activities and were treated to Winn-Dixie water, snacks, giveaways and more. After all the donations were tallied, more than $3,000 in food and funds was raised to support the local food bank.

“It means everything to us that Winn-Dixie has once again donated their time resources to assist our neighbors in need,” said Feeding South Florida CEO Paco Velez. “This community fundraising event is another marvelous example of Winn-Dixie being a valuable corporate partnerand going the extra mile to help provide meals for thousands of South Florida families.”
