The associate team at Winn-Dixie store No. 471 in Andalusia, Ala., has gone above and beyond to support the American Red Cross while serving others in their community.

The team in Andalusia recently participated in the “Taste of Covington County,” an annual event that supports the Covington County Chapter of the American Red Cross.

A major contribution to Taste of Covington County is selling tickets, which help fund the local chapter. Winn-Dixie associates actively promoted the event to family, friends and customers, generating ticket sales to help support the cause.

“We are pleased that we could be involved in such a worthy cause with a substantial impact in this community,” said Josh Williamson, store director for Winn-Dixie in Andalusia. “Our team recognized this event as way to generate awareness for the American Red Cross and our local chapter among customers, family and friends.”

The associate team also participated as a sponsor in this year’s festivities. Winn-Dixie’s world-famous baked beans were featured among the local restaurants’ sampling selections, as were cookies from the Winn-Dixie Bakery. The community not only got a taste of Winn-Dixie’s delicious hot food selections and bakery treats, but also its continued commitment to its neighbors.

Mike Batchelor, local produce lead, helped with serving and greeting guests during the event. The Winn-Dixie team was part of a community-wide effort that raised $15,000 for the Red Cross local chapter.
