The community excitement for the new Winn-Dixie store in Bonita Springs, Fla. started building before the doors to store No. 2402 officially opened. Local community members eagerly welcomed Winn-Dixie as one of the 30 vendors at the local Art Fest on March 22.

“They were very positive,” said Winn-Dixie No. 2402 Director David Williams. “They can’t wait for us to open!”

The Bonita store is one of the many previously operated as a Sweetbay Supermarket. And as the store’s associates transitioned from one store to another, they brushed up on their fuelperks! Rewards program trivia, stocked a tent with prizes and were ready at the Art Fest to share information about how shopping at Winn-Dixie saves money.

David Williams and store associates got the message across. More than 250 future customers signed up for the Customer Reward Card during the festival.

“We signed up so many people we ran out of cards,” Williams said. “We had to have more cards sent to us.”

Williams was integral in the planning of Art Fest, which started about a year ago. When he realized it was going to take place the weekend his store was being converted, he realized it would be a great opportunity to talk to customers about Winn-Dixie.

The Winn-Dixie logo may be new to David, but David is not new to Bonita Springs. He has worked in that community, in that store, for two of his 18 years with Sweetbay. He is a familiar face in the area and has built relationships with community organizations.
