Independence Day weekend was especially sweet for fans of Pensacola, Florida minor league baseball team, the Blue Wahoos. On July 3, Winn-Dixie, the Official Supermarket of the Blue Wahoos, surprised fans who attended the team’s biggest game of the year with a sampling of our fresh and delicious pies.

Excitement was in the air as District 1 associates proudly offered tasty varieties of Winn-Dixie’s award-winning pies to an audience of 5,500 baseball fans. With nearly 50 pies sampled, it’s safe to say the pies were a crowd-pleaser.

“The fans are our customers, and we take pride in serving them,” said Pensacola District Director David Logan. “They enjoyed our pies so much that it was hard to keep up with the sampling."

The Blue Wahoos hosted another special event between innings. Winn-Dixie sponsored a pie eating competition, and four randomly-selected audience members were invited to eat as much award-winning blueberry pie as possible in 30 seconds. The event was featured on the Jumbotron, so fans could cheer contestants on to victory.

“This was a fun and creative way to enjoy July 4th with baseball and blueberry pie,” said Logan. “The participants and spectators both enjoyed the festivities.”
