Winn-Dixie is the official grocery sponsor of the New Orleans Saints, and stores in the area recently teamed up with Saints tight end Benjamin Watson to host an NFL season kick-off dinner at the New Orleans Mission.

The New Orleans Mission is a private, non-profit organization, created as a service provider for the growing population of homeless men. It is the largest faith-based private service provider among 60 shelters catering to the homeless population of New Orleans.

Winn-Dixie and Watson’s foundation, One More, provided a tailgate-themed meal to members of the Mission’s 12-month transition program in an event that coincided with the beginning of the 2013 NFL season. Winn-Dixie helped provide hamburgers, barbecue chicken, baked beans, mac n’ cheese, green beans, rolls and brownies.

“Football season is one of our favorite times of year, so any time we can share our passion with others, we’re thrilled to do so,” said Winn-Dixie District Director Perry Fontanille. “Especially for this organization and to support this cause, which is at the heart of our mission.”
