Komen Thanks 500px
Judy Salerno, president and CEO of Susan G. Komen for the Cure thanks BI-LO and Winn-Dixie stores for more than $450,000 in contributions raised in the fall scan program.

In 2013, BI-LO and Winn-Dixie associates and customers joined forces to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to support the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization in its mission to cure breast cancer and to support those who have the disease as they fight to get well.

BI-LO customers and associates raised more than $450,000 through an in-store scan donation program that was conducted in many stores from Sept. 17 through Oct. 22, said Melissa Adams, Bi-Lo Holdings manager of charitable giving. The stores that chose to support the Susan G. Komen organization through this program railsed a grand total of $455,820.

And that was just a part of the total support BI-LO and Winn-Dixie showed. Stores also conducted their own fund-raising efforts to support the organization’s efforts to conquer breast cancer.

“We’d like to thank our hard-working associates and our customers for their contributions to this important and worthy cause,” Adams said.

Through the very generous donation Bi-Lo and Winn-Dixie stores made to Komen, women and men in your communities will have more access to the resources essential to ensuring not one more life is lost to breast cancer,” Susan G. Komen Corporate Relations Manager Allison Mentesana said. “From our Komen family to your collective Bi-Lo Holdings family, thank you for your partnership and for supporting our mission to save lives and end breast cancer forever.”

In a holiday video thanking BI-LO and Winn-Dixie, representatives of Susan G. Komen chapters throughout the BI-LO and Winn-Dixie footprint extend their thanks and explain how many hundreds will receive life-saving breast cancer screenings and many other services as a direct result.

“We are profoundly grateful for this valuable contribution to end breast cancer,” said Judy Salerno, president and CEO of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
