This year marked a transition for retail pharmacies throughout the country as the Affordable Care Act took effect, and this year’s Bi-Lo Holdings Pharmacist of the Year awards reflected that, said John Fegan, vice president of Pharmacy.
“The practice of pharmacy continued to change,” Fegan said. “Now it’s not only the products we dispense, but the services we provide,” Fegan said. “The pharmacists recognized this year were very adaptable to the changes in the way we provide our prescription services to the patient.”
Fegan said the pharmacist’s skillset now includes greater involvement with patients and the ability to administer immunizations. Also helpful this year was to keep abreast of political news as it pertains to healthcare. The award recipients understand the implications of the law and led their pharmacies in making the most of it, he said.
“The practice of pharmacy has changed this year and the pharmacists we recognized stood out,” he said.
