As a company that’s constantly trying to do better for the health of our associates, Bi-Lo Holdings encourages associates to participate in community fitness events that reinforce our commitment to associate health and demonstrate to our customers our dedication to healthy living.

We showed an example of that commitment April 16 at the Beson4 Media Group Corporate Run in Jacksonville, Florida. More than 75 store and store support center associates participated. Every year, the 5k run/walk attracts more than 3,000 individual runners and walkers of all training and skill levels and representatives from corporations, government agencies and financial institutions.

The men’s winner from Bi-Lo Holdings was Matt Parks, with a time of 18:04. The women’s winner for Bi-Lo Holdings was Denise Parker, with a time of 23:20. The men’s winner for Winn-Dixie store No. 161 was Clark Kent, with a time of 19:32.

At Bi-Lo Holdings, participation in such races can lead to even greater recognition. On April 6, the company recognized its fitness buff associates for competing last year in three separate 5k races in Jacksonville.

“In 2014, Bi-Lo Holdings held its first race series, where associates were encouraged to commit to three or more selected run/walk events,” said Derek Lott, senior director of supplier diversity. “More than 75 associates signed up for the race series, with more than 33 percent completing all three races.”

These associates received the company’s first-ever Race Series medal for their participation and support. The award will again be given for events held this year, Lott added.

“To encourage even more associates to get involved with healthy lifestyle choices, we are awarding the run/walk participation medal for completion of any three run/walk/bike events in 2015,” he said.
