This holiday season, Winn-Dixie was again a leader in efforts to be a positive influence for inner-city children in New Orleans.

On Dec. 23, Winn-Dixie teamed up with the Carrollton Holiday Camp to spread cheer to 50 underprivileged elementary students, ages five through ten.

Marlon Hawkins, director of store no. 1430, spearheaded this local partnership, saying it was a great opportunity to help a disadvantaged area of the community. Hawkins arrived at the holiday camp bright and early with warm breakfast sandwiches and other holiday treats for the children.

“This was a really great way to reach future generations and make a positive impact in the community during the holiday season,” said Hawkins. “I am so happy and proud that Winn-Dixie played a role in the holiday camp. The kids were so appreciative and excited to be there.”

In addition to bringing breakfast, Winn-Dixie provided lunch for the camp and operated a cookie decorating clinic. Also, store associates handed out festive elf hats for campers to wear when Santa arrived later that day.

“We were so happy to partner with Winn-Dixie for the Carrolton Holiday Camp,” said Emma Pegues of the Carrollton Study Group. “This is a very special holiday program and because of Winn-Dixie's generosity, 50 kids received a very memorable Christmas experience at the holiday camp.”
