Winn-Dixie District Director Jason Cowell, Regional Sales Manager Billy Lovelette and Store No. 93 Director Dave Smith hit the fairway to support the YMCA of Florida’ Charity Golf Tournament.

Winn-Dixie helped the YMCA of Florida’s First Coast make a hole-in-one for their annual charity golf tournament Sept. 26 at the Magnolia Point Golf & Country Club in Green Cove Springs, Florida.

Winn-Dixie supported the event as a T-shirt sponsor this year and donated water and granola for golfer welcome bags.

The grocer also provided a grocery giveaway with a unique challenge to tournament players: to chip a 30-yard shot into a Winn-Dixie grocery cart for a chance to win Winn-Dixie gift cards. Out of 118 tournament players, only five made the difficult shot.

The tournament raised more than $15,000 for Stop Summer Learning Loss, a YMCA education program for children during the lazy summer months. The program provides fun, themed activities to give children tools to improve their reading and math skills, build self-esteem and develop interpersonal skills.

As community organizations, it is important that we all give back to our families and neighbors,” said YMCA Clay County Executive Director Willie Lees. “When sponsors like Winn-Dixie step up as community partners, their commitment becomes a large part of our success for children’s programs like Stop Summer Learning Loss.”

Jacksonville District Director Jason Colwell and Winn-Dixie associates also participated in the tournament to support the YMCA.

“My family is very involved with the YMCA, so I’ve seen their impact on the community first-hand,” said Jacksonville District Director Jason Colwell. “Our associates enjoyed being a part of this year’s tournament to benefit the Y’s Summer Learning Loss program and we will continue to support and grow our partnership into the future.”
