The new school year may still be young, but, the team at Winn-Dixie store No. 720 in Englewood, Fla. already has racked up a number of activities with educational partners.

Store Director Al James and his associates have built and maintained long-standing relationships and have earned the appreciation of students and parents.

The store’s first Math Night of the year was Sept. 24, and 60 students from Vineland Elementary School brought their families and their arithmetic skills to the store’s aisles. As a reward to students who completed their Math Night worksheet, the store team gave them a cake featuring the school’s logo.

On Oct. 4, Winn-Dixie donated hot dogs, water and Chek Sodas to Myakka River Elementary School during their PTO Fall Festival. To show their gratitude for Winn-Dixie’s ongoing support of the staff and students, school officials placed a Winn-Dixie banner at the entrance of the event, highlighting the store as Myakka River Elementary Schools primary business partner. James was on hand to meet and greet more than 200 families who attended the event, encouraging them to visit Winn-Dixie for an upcoming Math Night on Oct. 17.

The Lemon Bay High School Band showed their appreciation for Winn-Dixie’s support by holding a presentation at the store on Oct. 12. For several years, James has invited band members to hold fundraising events outside the store to raise donations for trips, uniforms and more. The band also names Winn-Dixie as a major sponsor on their practice and travel T-shirts.

James said he is thrilled his store has been able to continue supporting the community‘s schools and he’s grateful for the thanks the store’s associates steadily receive in return.

“We have a fantastic relationship with all of our educational partners and we are thrilled to be making an impact yet again this school year,” he said. “We are continuing to build our report in the community and show our neighbors we are here to support them.”
