BI-LO was a key sponsor of the “Famously Hot New Year” celebration in Columbia, S.C., and families, all-night revelers and Buddy Banana joined in for the festivities and to ring in 2014 Dec. 31.

The event brings the local community together and draws people from surrounding counties, states and even countries to enjoy the southern hospitality from South Carolina’s capital city.

Bill Scales BI-LO Columbia, S.C. district director, gave a toast to the event’s more than 26,000 attendees. He stressed that giving back and supporting the local communities is part of BI-LO’s culture and emphasized that it is a natural extension of the brand’s core business and at the heart of the company since it began.

“We were proud to support wonderful organization and events, such as Famously Hot New Year, that are committed to bettering our communities, “Scales said. “The thousands of associates and customers in the Columbia market know what a gem our city is and love to share it with others.”

The event, in its third year, featured a number of bands performing live on a stage near the South Carolina Statehouse in the middle of downtown Columbia. The event also featured street vendors, beer and champagne and a fireworks display billed to be the largest New Year’s fireworks show in the history of the Carolinas. This year’s attendance was a record-setter for the event.

The goal of the Famously Hot New Year event is to attract positive attention from all across the country, helping build the Midlands’ reputation as a vibrant, growing area where people can live, work and play.
