BI-LO associates joined the Greenville Health System and other community organizations for the ninth annual Minority Health Summit April 11 in Greenville, South Carolina.

The free event is held each year in observance of National Minority Health Awareness month and aims to increase awareness of major health disparities that affect the lives of minorities in the community.

Event-goers participated in physician panel discussions, healthy lifestyle presentations and health and fitness demonstrations. The focus of this year’s summit was heart disease and stroke prevention, and featured a special keynote presentation by heart disease advocate, TV host and World Boxing Champion, Laila Ali – who also happens to the daughter of legendary heavyweight boxer Muhammed Ali.

This was the sixth year BI-LO associates participated in the event. BI-LO pharmacists stayed busy performing free cholesterol screenings and educating attendees on diabetes care and prevention.

“As a neighborhood pharmacy, it’s important that we promote good health within the communities we serve,” said Jamie Floyd, pharmacy district manager. “This event allows us to connect with members of the local community outside of the store and provide them with important screenings to help them take control of their health.”

More than 2,000 attendees also left with a BI-LO reusable grocery bag full of goodies and information on fuelperks! and other BI-LO programs.
