Winn-Dixie and Step Up For Students is celebrating their continued partnership and success in providing 6,130 scholorships to deserving students since 2002.

Step Up For Students is an initiative of the Florida Tax Credit (FTC) Scholarship Program, an educational plan designed to help deserving families in Florida obtain the best education for their children.

The celebration was Oct. 23 during a Step Up For Students Success Partners Program “Math Night,” hosted by partner school St. Paul’s Catholic School in Jacksonville, Fla. The purpose of the program was to engage students and families in a math activity that they completed together during an evening of learning and fellowship. More than 50 students and families attended the event and solved simple math problems together by rolling large dice to imporive their addition, subtraction and multiplication skills. Math teachers also offered tips to parents on how to help their children at home to achieve success in school.

Principal Kim Repper welcomed families to the event followed by remarks by Step Up For Students President Doug Tuthill. Winn-Dixie Regional Vice President Randy Rambo also spoke to the crowd to explain the significance of the grocer’s partnership with the program. He said Winn-Dixie is proud that the partnership has generated 6,130 scholarships for deserving Florida students over the last 12 years.

“Winn-Dixie redirects funds we already pay to the state to Step Up For Students, enabling us to help children in need to achieve educational excellence at no cost to our organization,” Rambo said. “Our children are tomorrow’s business leaders and associates - and they are a part of the local families we serve.”

Art teacher and Step Up For Students scholarship recipient Jessica Lally also spoke during the event and thanked Winn-Dixie for supporting the non-profit, which directly helped her children and other students attend the school to better serve their needs.
