The Winn-Dixie Family Zone has been a staple at Calle Ocho for seven years, offering games, food sampling and live entertainment to thousands of attendees.

For more than 20 years, Winn-Dixie has been a resource for the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana. As the club’s 35thAnnual Carnaval Miami draws near, Winn-Dixie will again participate with a month of festivities that attract thousands of South Florida residents to celebrate an annual tradition with their neighbors.

As the event series has expanded from a community celebration to a worldwide phenomenon, so has Winn-Dixie’s support. The oldest Hispanic, continuous-meeting club in the United States, began with a group of high school friends in 1975 and today it develops projects that benefit underprivileged families in South Florida with recreational, athletic, and educational programs. Funds for the effort come from sources such as Carnaval Miami.

Winn-Dixie will host family-fun “Mini Calle Ocho” events at select stores, as well as the Winn-Dixie Carnaval Miami Cooking Contest. Winn-Dixie will also provide culinary tastings at Carnaval on the Mileand welcome thousands with an afternoon of fun at the Winn-Dixie Family Fun Zone during the largest Hispanic festival in the nation: Calle Ocho.

“Throughout the years, Winn-Dixie has become part of the Kiwanis family and it is through their commitment that we’ve been able to fund various initiatives like our scholarship and summer camps programs,” said Tony Lorenzo, President of Kiwanis Club of Little Havana.“These highly-anticipated events are a true testament to how dedicated the neighborhood grocer is to our community.”

Winn-Dixie kicked-off festivities Feb. 1 during the first of four Mini Calle Ocho events. Through the end of February, Winn-Dixie will welcome event goers for Mini Calle Ocho celebrations featuring a live cooking demonstration by local celebrities Chef Pepin and Univision’s Chef Maggie Jimenez, who will prepare easy and delicious Kraft Food recipes for attendees to enjoy, plus food tastings, giveaways and more, at select stores every Saturday.

The fun continues with Winn-Dixie’s Carnaval Miami Cooking Contest on Feb. 20 and Feb. 27, held at Winn-Dixie store No. 247 and No. 283, respectively, where amateur chefs and culinary aficionados will vie for a chance to compete during the final Cooking Competition held at Carnaval on the Mile on March 2. In addition to the final round of the Cooking Contest, Winn-Dixie will also be at Carnaval on the Mile showcasing a variety of culinary offerings. The fun will conclude on March 9 as thousands of Calle Ocho attendees enjoy sampling, games, music and more at the Winn-Dixie Family Zone, located on 25thAvenue and S.W. Eight Street at Calle Ocho.
