The City of Hallandale Beach, Fla. welcomed nearly 200 residents to the city’s 12thPatriots' Day Sept. 11 Memorial.

Winn-Dixie No. 203 Store Director Ron Daniels and Winn-Dixie No. 306 Director Lavar Miller joined neighbors and area civil servants in a ceremony commemorating local police and fire departments.

The event marked the second consecutive year Daniels and Miller have participated. Since their inaugural visit, both store directors have become familiar faces to police and fire department personnel, assisting with a variety of events throughout the community.

“While building these partnerships, we have come to know many of these men and women well, so it was special to share this with them,” Daniels said. “We have received many praises for how Winn-Dixie has integrated into the community and we are very proud of that.”

Daniels and Miller were onhand for the ceremony that included a call to arms, a moment of silence and the “tolling of the bell.” Among distinguished attendees were Hallandale Beach Mayor Joy Cooper, Police Chief Dwayne Flournoy and Fire Chief Daniel Sullivan. Once the ceremony concluded, attendees enjoyed refreshments provided by Winn-Dixie.

The store directors met with several members of the police and fire departments, taking a tour of the fire station where the event took place. Miller said the importance of supporting a community can never be overstated.

“Being able to take time out of our day to show our first-responders that we are there for them is invaluable,” he said. “Ron and I are the faces of Winn-Dixie to our neighbors, so showing our gratitude during this event was a huge success.”
