Winn-Dixie chefs attend the Go Red Chili Cook-Off.

Winn-Dixie joined forces with the American Heart Association to boost awareness for heart disease Saturday, Feb. 28 during the Go Red Chili Cook-Off.

The event is associated with the American Heart Association First Coast Heart Ride, which was canceled due to inclement weather. The ride honored Paul Figura, a prominent Jacksonville photographer and motorcycle enthusiast, who died in 2014 after suffering a stroke.

Winn-Dixie chefs competed in the unique competition, and their heart-healthy chili recipes did well against others. Chef Greg Ratz was given a Chef’s Choice Award for his “Director’s Cut” smoked brisket chili. Chef Harlan Walden received the People’s Choice Award for his “White Lightning” white chicken chili. Chef Adam Logan earned a Judge’s Choice Award for his “Old Smoky” ground chuck and chili pepper chili.

“Even though the ride was canceled due to rain, we had such a great time participating in the Chili Cook-Off,” said Bi-Lo Holdings Chef Deanna Stephens. “Thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible and we truly love working with the American Heart Association and are looking forward to the next event.”
