If you told Billy Robbins last year that he would be a regular guest on a TV show, he would probably tell you that you had the wrong person.

However, the assistant store director from Winn-Dixie store No. 443 in Columbus, Ga., has become famous on local TV, putting his culinary skills to work on The Dee Armstrong Show, a program that airs daily on WLTZ NBC 38 in Columbus.

Billy met Armstrong last year when she came by his store to pick up a few items. After a long conversation and some great customer service, Dee suggested that Billy come and cook his recipe for Conecuh Sausage Boston Butt on her show. That segment received such a great response that when the station sought to partner with a local grocery store to give away hams to local families in need during the holidays, they knew exactly who to call.

On Monday, Dec. 16 Robbins and Winn-Dixie District Director, Richard McGough returned to show where they announced the “Pay It Forward” holiday ham promotion and Billy explained how to cook the perfect holiday ham. His recipe follows on the next page.

“I enjoy going on the show to share my cooking tips,” said Billy. “I love what I do, so I really feel like I can be myself when I’m there. We always have a lot of fun.”

The Pay it Forward promotion allows viewers to write to the station to nominate someone who they feel deserves a Winn-Dixie holiday ham. Thanks to a $250 donation from Winn-Dixie, many families will have something special to enjoy this Christmas.

“This is just another example of the unique ways that we can give back to people in the communities that we serve,” McGough said.

“A lot of people have already come into the store to tell me that they saw me on TV and how much they enjoy seeing me on the show,” said Billy. “I look forward to doing more next year.”

Cherry Pineapple Holiday Ham

Directions:
Step 1:Purchase a standard size ham at your local Winn-Dixie or BI-LO.
Step 2:Slice open the ham and cut out the bone.
Step 3:Preheat the oven to 300 degrees.
Step 4:Core one medium sized pineapple.
Step 5:Stuff maraschino cherries into the cored pineapple.
Step 6:Insert entire pineapple into the ham (where bone once was).
Step 7: Place ham in the oven and cook for 3 ½ hours or until internal temperature is 160 degrees.

Step 8:Slice and enjoy!
