What began with The Salvation Army of Indian River County’s holiday Red Kettle campaign more than 14 years ago has grown into a partnership that has helped more than 10,000 local residents in need. For the last five years, Winn-Dixie store No. 2366 in Vero Beach, Fla. has built on the partnership.

Store Director and Vero Beach native Rick Romani says he’s an avid supporter of the local Salvation Army branch. Since 2009, Romani has provided the organization with gift cards, helped raised funds through Winn-Dixie’s Scan Program and supported their Mobile Feeding program through a grant from the Winn-Dixie Foundation. Leading up to the holidays, Romani worked with The Salvation Army of Indian River County’s Development Director John Corapi to coordinate a donation of 50 hams to help provide needy families with a holiday meal.

“Rick and Winn-Dixie are a testament to a local business going above and beyond to support the community,” said Corapi. “This is one of many donations that shows Winn-Dixie is dedicated to building on our relationship and giving back to the residents of Indian River County.”

Romani and Market Manager Rodger Hummel delivered the hams to The Salvation Army of Indian River County Executive Director Major Sam VanDenberg. Romani said he cherishes being able to support struggling families in his hometown.

“There are many residents in our community who can use a helping hand and it’s heartwarming to be able to lend them one,” he said.“With the New Year underway, our store team is excited to continue to work with The Salvation Army to make Indian River County a better place.”
