Every year, thousands of people gather from near and far to celebrate the nation’s largest peanut festival held in Dothan, Ala., the “Peanut Capital of the World.”

The National Peanut Festival celebrates harvest season and this past event was a milestone, marking the 70thanniversary of the popular Southern festival. It represents the nation’s peanut-producing region, which encompasses parts of Alabama, Florida and Georgia.

Themed, “Peanut Goes Platinum,” this year’s festival paid homage to previous festivals throughout the years . The festival took place over a 10-day period and featured attractions including festive costume contests, family-friendly amusement rides, animal and livestock shows, delicious foods and more. Entertainment, including energetic musicians, local cheerleading competitions and celebratory parades, added Dothan flavor to the annual event.

For the fourth straight year, Winn-Dixie was a proud partner of the festival, and store No. 457 was in attendance, handing out refreshments to eager festival attendees.

“This is a fun event that Winn-Dixie is so proud to take part in,” said store director Todd Deese. “The National Peanut Festival is a part of the culture here in Dothan. The locals look forward to it every year.”

Winn-Dixie is a longtime supporter the National Peanut Festival and the associates of store No. 457 have watched the event grow tremendously, Deese said.

“Every year we come out and see more and more people enjoy the festivities, said Deese. “Winn-Dixie is excited to be a part of this community celebration.”
