Sixteen Hispanic students from Northeast Florida will be better able to earn a college degree and achieve their dreams, thanks to Winn-Dixie and First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

The students were honored at the First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s annual “Achieving the Dream Scholarships” luncheon, sponsored by Winn-Dixie, in Jacksonville, Florida, on Oct. 16.

Each honoree received a $2,500 scholarship to further their education. Some 17 years ago, the Mayor’s Hispanic Advisory Board began the annual event with the goal of helping Hispanic students earn degrees and celebrate academic successes along the way.

Winn-Dixie’s North Florida Regional Vice President Shawn Sloan, along with other associates and supporters, were recognized during the luncheon for continuous support and commitment with the First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the “Achieving the Dream” scholarship luncheon for the past five years.

“We are proud to be the presenting sponsor of the scholarship luncheon support and empower the youth in our community,” Sloan said. “FCHCC continues to impact our local Hispanics by providing educational scholarships to these academic scholars who are tomorrow’s leaders.”
