Harveys store No. 1695 in Albany, Georgia hosted a special event for their customers Jan. 17 with customer appreciation day and presented a check for $133,000 to the local Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) chapter.

The MDA invited a local family from Leesburg whose daughter, Charlotte, suffers from Pompe disease, an inherited disorder caused by the buildup of a complex sugar glycogen in the body’s cells, which can cause weakness in the muscles. Charlotte’s family shared her story to shed light on what the MDA does for many families.

Customers of all ages attended the event and had the opportunity to take part in the bounce house, have their faces painted or balloons shaped into their favorite animals. The event also featured a prize wheel, which was a popular station where customers had a chance to win koozies, key chains, visors, and $10 Harveys gift cards. Each department sampled items to highlight some of Harveys customer favorites like the Golden Fudge cake of the month, shrimp dip, and multiple ready-to-eat salads that customers could not help but stop and savor. The event also featured Georgia-grown vendors and products like Joe Kem's Barbecue sauce and jerky.

Both customers and Harveys associates enjoyed the Harveys customer appreciation day.

“It’s always a pleasure giving back to the customers like this and having the MDA association along with Charlotte and her family being a part of the event,” said Harveys associate Donna Sumlin. “We enjoy seeing the smiling faces from winning a $10 Harveys gift card from the prize wheel or sampling the cake of the month that allows customers to try something new they may have not tried before.”
