In a June 7 store event, associates at BI-LO store No. 5626 in Anderson, S.C. did more than just support the efforts of Relay for Life of Anderson County in its fight against cancer – they also supported one of their own, who is fighting the disease.

For more than five years, the store has supported the local Relay for Life organization. The store’s appreciation event honored those who have been touched by the disease. The event was spearheaded by Michael Lanier, service area manager at BI-LO store no. 5626, who is also on Relay for Life’s planning committee.

“So many in our community have been affected by cancer, whether it’s through a family member, friend, co-worker or even an acquaintance” said Lanier. “This event brought people together to show support for a fellow associate and the community, and also raised money for a great cause.”

Dozens of families filled BI-LO’s parking lot and enjoyed activities such as a car show, live music, face painting, bounce houses, sampling and more. Attendees received balloons to release into the sky in memory of lives lost to cancer and in honor of survivors, caregivers and those touched by the disease.

Greenville TV station WYFF covered the store event and broadcast a news segment locally the next day.
