  Boston College visited Clemson Oct. 12, and some lucky fans got to attend the game free of charge, thanks to BI-LO. ​

If someone gave you two free college football game tickets just for buying groceries, you might think you were dreaming -- but that’s exactly what happened to BI-LO shoppers throughout upstate South Carolina in the recent Clemson University No Doughpromotion.

Fifty-two BI-LO stores in Greenville, S.C., Anderson, S.C. and Spartanburg, S.C. participated in the promotion, which began Sept. 12. Clemson offered a total of 500 tickets, and shoppers who purchased six select BI-LO own brand items, including Southern Home, Full Circle, PAWS and Chek, automatically received a voucher for two free tickets at check out. The vouchers could be redeemed at one of two Clemson University home games -- versus Boston College or The Citadel. Clemson beat Boston College, Oct. 12, 24-14. The game against The Citadel is Nov. 23.

The promotion was slated to run for eight weeks, but there was an overwhelming response from customers, which may have been spurred on in part because Clemson was ranked as No. 3 in the country during that time. While BI-LO has been doing this promotion for five years, this was the first time they have sold out so quickly.

College football fan Brian Joyce said the promotion allowed him to enjoy one of his favorite pastimes without having to dish out big bucks by purchasing his own ticket.

“Thanks to BI-LO, I was able to watch a top football team and have a great weekend, by simply purchasing items that I would normally buy during my weekly trip to the grocery store,” Joyce said.
