Representatives from Harveys, Southeastern Federal Credit Union, Wild Adventures and Second Harvest join together for the kick-off launch of Fill-A-Truck for Hunger.

Harveys teamed up with Southeastern Federal Credit Union and Wild Adventures for the opening of the Fill-a-Truck for Hunger Food Drive to benefit local Feeding America affiliate, Second Harvest of South Georgia.

"Most people think they'd have to cross an ocean to see hunger, but they only have to cross town,” said Second Harvest of South Georgia Chief Marketing Officer Eliza McCall. “South Georgia has the highest rates of hunger and poverty in the state. We are so excited about this Fill-a-Truck for Hunger campaign because we know thousands of families will be touched by the food collected during the month."

As part of the kick-off event, Harveys presented a $10,000 donation to Second Harvest of South Georgia to show support for the program’s work in the area. Wild Adventures offered BOGO ticket admission during Labor Day weekend to customers who brought a non-perishable food donation to the park. Harveys collected donations for Second Harvest of South Georgia from Aug. 20-Sept. 16, and non-perishable food donations were accepted throughSeptember -- Hunger Action Month -- at Southeastern FCU's five branch locations.

“Harveys is committed to fighting hunger,” said Jimmy Purvis, Harveys regional vice president. “At Harveys, we strive to not only be your neighborhood grocery store, we strive to be your neighbor and support the communities we serve. We challenge the community to support Second Harvest and make a donation while you shop.”
