Winn-Dixie store No. 2354 Pharmacy Tech Brenda McCord has been a beacon of light for underprivileged families on Florida’s Treasure Coast for many years. As a member of the Sebastian, Florida store team since 2002, McCord has continually fulfilled her passion for helping neighbors in need, whether it’s at the pharmacy or in the community.

McCord says she has always been motivated to work with children and has been a member of the Youth Board at Apostle Faith Church of Deliverance for 13 years. She became involved with her church’s youth-focused charitable programs, and that has made her a cherished fixture to those wanting to make a difference, as well as those in need of a helping hand. As part of her most recent annual project, McCord raised donations from community members, associates and customers to provide students with much needed supplies that helped them kick-off the school year on the right foot.

Winn-Dixie store No. 2354 Store Director Scott Finke says McCord’s impact on her neighbors is visible through the relationships she’s built with her customers.

“Brenda’s commitment to Treasure Coast residents knows no bounds, and we thank her for being an outstanding representative of Winn-Dixie in the community,” he said. “Countless students have been able to start their school year off right thanks to her unwavering efforts.”

Brenda says she will continue collecting donations and school supplies to distribute in early 2015 and is also working on her next annual charitable initiative -- a holiday toy drive. She has already received several toy donations from the community, including three bags full from a loyal customer. McCord said she enjoys making the community a better place and that she’s not doing it alone.

“I’m fortunate to be able to help those in need, and I thank those that join me from the bottom of my heart,” she said. “I’ve met countless numbers of families over the years and it continues to be very special to me when I can help put a smile on their faces.”
