Over the last year, Kim Jackson filled an instrumental role as the marketing liaison coordinating efforts to integrate Piggly-Wiggly and Delhaize America stores into Bi-Lo Holdings store banners.

Between July 2013 and June 2014, she assisted in the planning and execution of converting 21 Piggly Wiggly stores and 138 Delhaize America stores to BI-LO or Winn-Dixie and three Winn-Dixie stores to the newly-acquired Harveys banner. She said she visited about 95 percent of those stores during the conversion process. Jackson took the lead for the marketing department during the integration process and handled problems for marketing team members as they arose.

Jackson’s own Herculean work did not escape notice. On Aug. 26, she was honored with a Jacksonville Business Journal Women of Influence award. The award is given every year based on business or organization growth and financial success, special project management, launching a new product or service, community involvement, mentoring of other women, industry leadership and lifetime achievements.

“I’m very grateful people see me that way,” Jackson said.” I just do what I do. I’m just K.J.; I do what needs to be done and then it’s on to the next thing.”

In a style that she’s known for, she credited other members of the store conversion teams for the large amount of work that was accomplished during that time.

“Being away from your family for so long is a really big deal,” she said. “These people did that, and that’s a truly amazing sacrifice on their part. This is an amazing group of people.”

Jackson’s award was four years in the making, she said. She came to Winn-Dixie in 2008 as a brand manager. She left in 2012, but returned last year in a contractual role as Head of marketing planning and acquisition projects. In June, she was named director of advertising operations. She said her prior experience was instrumental in her effectiveness after she returned.

“When you have great relationships with people, things just come together,” she said. “Sometimes, when you’re influential, you don’t know that you are. You're just happy to be contributing to something larger than yourself, hoping to make a difference in people's lives.”
