Every year, BI-LO teams up with local television stations throughout the greater Greenville and Chattanooga areas to recognize educators with the “Golden Apple Teacher of the Year” title. Through this special partnership, hundreds of teachers have been honored in recent years.

After the community nominates the teachers, they are selected to win a weekly Golden Apple Award, an award leading up to the big “Teacher of the Year “announcement. These weekly winners are profiled on TV stations WYFF in Greenville, S.C. and WDEF in Chattanooga, Tenn. and are reviewed by a panel of judges who recognize teachers who stand out above the rest.

Community members, fellow teachers, city leaders, family and friends gathered for the announcement of this year’s winners at a celebratory ceremony on May 5 at the Westin Hotel in Greenville and May 8 at the Chattanooga Convention Center.

WYFF’s 2014 Teacher of the Year is Colin Rork of Hunt Meadows Elementary School, and WDEF’s 2014 Teacher of the Year winner is Diane Hitchcock from Snow Hill Elementary School. These winners each received $2,500 BI-LO gift cards. The remaining five finalists also received BI-LO gift cards.

BI-LO continues to demonstrate dedication in supporting the phenomenal teachers in the area by showing appreciation for their hard work and commitment to theirstudents.
