BI-LO teamed up with the Ripken Experience - Myrtle Beach this summer, welcoming participants to the Florida city and to the facility named for baseball superstar Cal Ripken Jr.

The Ripken Experience - Myrtle Beach is a state-of-the-art youth baseball complex where youth baseball participants from around the country get a great opportunity to enjoy tournament baseball while soaking in the sights in the tourist destination city.

This year, the Ripken Experience - Myrtle Beach celebrated 10 years of excellence with weeklong tournaments throughout the season. Each six-game (minimum) tournament included opening ceremonies and skills competitions and concluded with each participant receiving a gift.

As new teams arrived at the field every Sunday, BI-LO welcomed the players, coaches and parents, offering them information about how to save with the BI-LO BONUSCARD and the weekly advertising circular. BI-LO also provided gift cards to Ripken Experience interns throughout the summer to help them stock up their kitchens with quick meals during the busy weeks.

“Teams from across the United States come to attend the Ripken Experience and we are honored to be able to assist the teams during their stay in Myrtle Beach,” stated Cheri Wood, BI-LO director of BI-LO No. 5702 in North Myrtle Beach. “As well, the Ripken Experience is an all-around great organization that teaches team-building and key characteristics like integrity, passion and commitment, so when we support this organization, we know that we are doing more than just supporting the game.”

To show appreciation to BI-LO and all the managers who helped out during the summer, one lucky manager was given the opportunity to throw the first pitch at a closing ceremony. The local BI-LO team selected Mitch Beaman, fresh area manager from store No. 5702, to do the honors for BI-LO.

“It was a great experience to be able to be a part of the ceremony and throw the first pitch,” he said.
