Winn-Dixie store No. 5 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida celebrated THE PLAYERS Championship professional golf tournament, held at nearby TPC Sawgrass, as store associates treated customers to a series of Golf and Garden events May 4 through May 9.

Activities included themed food and wine tastings, a Customer Appreciation Day, a Military and Teacher Appreciation Day and a Mother’s Day brunch.

The store teed up the week with fine wine and artisan cheese pairings May 4 and 5.

The Customer Appreciation Day on May 6 featured a cooking demonstration, as Winn-Dixie Corporate Training Chefs Gabriel Sanchez-Leal and Harlan Walden presented a quick and delicious coriander-crusted salmon recipe with sautéed garlic baby spinach and roasted red pepper and pineapple salsa. Customers enjoyed fresh seafood and refreshing summer white wine pairings on May 7.

May 8 was Military and Teacher Appreciation Day, and teachers and military members with a valid ID received a complimentary rotisserie chicken from the Winn-Dixie deli. Samplings included grilled selections paired with a red wine tasting. The week’s events culminated with a Mother’s Day brunch complete with complimentary mimosas, pastries and smoothies.

In recognition of National Stamp Out Hunger Day, Ponte Vedra neighbors were encouraged to clean out their pantries and bring nonperishable food items to the store during the events to benefit Feeding Northeast Florida. Those who donated received a “mystery” Winn-Dixie gift card in amounts from $1 to $500. Customers scored a hole-in-one as they generously donated 2,098 pounds of foodor 1,750 meals to feed hungry individuals and families in the community.
