Montgomery, Ala. and Columbia, S.C.-area Winn-Dixie and BI-LO stores raised more than $70,000 to benefit community food bank organizations during a recent four-week “scan” community donation program conducted at store registers.
Two stores rose above the others when all of the donations were tallied. Winn-Dixie Store No. 407 in the Montgomery region and BI-LO Store No. 5661 in the Foothills region raised the most money for their area partner food banks during the program.
Winn-Dixie Store No. 407 in Tuscaloosa, Ala., raised $6,509.32 for the Montgomery Area Food Bank, giving it the highest single-store total across both banners. Store 407 was one of 30 stores whose donations benefited the Montgomery Area Food Bank, bringing the total money donated to $22,132.24.
“I am thankful every day that I am a part of such a dedicated team and get to serve in a community filled with selfless individuals who work together to support each other in times of need,” said Bill Hester, Store Director at Winn-Dixie Store No. 407.
BI-LO Store No. 5661 in Simpsonville, S.C. collected $6,152.11 for the Harvest Hope Food Bank in Columbia, S.C. The food bank received $50,966.20 from 55 BI-LO stores throughout the region.
“I am excited to know that my team was an essential part in facilitating the efforts that led to such a substantial outcome, and I am honored to lead such a great group of associates,” said Matt Pace, Store Director at BI-LO Store No. 5661.
“These stores exceeded our expectations and we are proud of their success in doing their part to help fight hunger and serve our communities,” said Melissa Adams, Bi-Lo Holdings manager of charitable giving.“The funds raised by all of our stores will make a significant difference to our partner Feeding America food banks and those in the surrounding communities that battle hunger every day.”
