The first Bi-Lo Holdings internship program has given a select group of 26 college students ten weeks of valuable experiences that will help boost their careers.

Of them, 14 worked in the Jacksonville Store Support Center and 12 gained knowledge in retail leadership roles throughout our regions. The support center interns topped off their summer experience July 31 with presentations to an audience that included members of company leadership and several of our partner educational institutions.

Dan Kammeraad, Bi-Lo Holdings senior recruiter, field and university, said the first Bi-Lo Holdings intern program was a combination of best practices from previous Winn-Dixie and BI-LO programs.

“Our inaugural year for the Bi-Lo Holdings Internship Program wasn’t only successful, it was a starting point for strong relationships with some of the country’s biggest and best universities,” he said.

Florida State University College of Business Professor Jim McLaughlin said he was impressed with the presentations the interns gave.

“I have been to various retail events where the interns presented their final projects, but what I saw yesterday were among the best I have seen in my 21 years at FSU,” he said.

Intern Wesley Ladson, who worked in the Bi-Lo Holdings Marketing department, said he was happy with what he gained from the internship.

“This summer far exceeded my expectations as far as my level of involvement and responsibility in my day-to-day tasks,” he said. “I believe this summer has put a lot of us in better positions for our future careers moving forward and given us a huge advantage over our peers.”
