Fruit Donation 500px
Members of the Ensley, Ala. community have a brighter Thanksgiving, thanks to Winn-Dixie store No. 595 and a local organization.

As many families were sitting down for a full meal of turkey, stuffing and all the fixings during the Thanksgiving holiday, Winn-Dixie store No. 595 associates showed support for their Ensley, Ala. community by putting together more than 175 fruit baskets.

Through an ongoing partnership with Worship and Deliverance Ministries, a local non-profit, the store donated 144 apples, 144 oranges and 225 bananas to those in need.

“As Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on all the blessings we receive each year, it can be easy to overlook those who need our help,” said Keith Durham, store director at Winn-Dixie. “I’m grateful for organizations like Worship and Deliverance Ministries that allow us to do our part in supporting the community and I’m thankful for my store associates that continually step up to the plate to offer assistance.”

The store’s partnership with the organization will continue through the holidays as additional fruit baskets will be distributed to the community during an event on Dec. 21. Soup, toys and fruit baskets will be given out, making many people’s Christmas a little bit brighter.

In celebrating the real meaning of Thanksgiving, Winn-Dixie store No. 595 donated 312 pounds of delicious fruit to the community.
