A Girl Scout troop in Englewood, Fla. enjoyed an educational trip to their local Winn-Dixie store May 15.
During their tour of store No. 2439, the girls got an opportunity to tour the various departments and to participate in an activity within each one.
“We enjoy offering these tours and giving back to the Englewood community,” said Danielle Viele, Winn-Dixie Store Director in Englewood.
Members of the troop from Englewood Elementary learned about the importance of “country of origin” when working with fruits and vegetables in the produce department. They enjoyed decorating their own cupcakes as “official cupcake decorators” in the store’s bakery department. They learned about the meat grinding process, but were especially impressed with the live lobsters in the seafood department. The girls even got a chance to experience what it’s like to ring up groceries on a real cash register.
“We’ve done other events with this school and the girl scouts,” Viele said. “We always see a positive reaction, and I’ve seen a lot of the parents come back to the store and shop.”
