On the morning of Feb. 7, Winn-Dixie Pharmacy Professional Services Manager BJ Cobb joined the First Coast American Heart Association at their annual National Wear Red Day event in Jacksonville, Fla. to raise awareness of heart disease on the First Coast.
Cobb, along with 15 others, braved the cool, damp morning to wave at passing cars and encourage Jacksonville residents and visitors to wear red in support of National Wear Red Day.
Local news station WJXT 4 interviewed Cobb on the importance of being heart healthy.
“It’s so important and easy to access tools to check your blood pressure and weight. All you need is to visit your local pharmacy,” said Cobb. “At Winn-Dixie, any pharmacist is happy to assist customers with determining their blood pressure and weight.”
For more than 10 years, the American Heart Association has sponsored National Wear Red Day to raise awareness for the No. 1 killer of women in the United States, heart disease. Throughout Jacksonville, Winn-Dixie has partnered with the First Coast American Heart Association to provide customers with heart-healthy information and to provide a free place to check blood pressure and other “numbers” to work toward a heart-healthy life. On the fourteenth of each month, Winn-Dixie encourages shoppers to come in and check their own numbers.
Supporters gathered with the AHA mascot Thumper to show support of National Wear Red Day.
