Winn-Dixie teamed up with the Adolph and Rose Levis Jewish Community Center to support the 2014 Levis JCC Maccabi Games, the largest Jewish youth event in the world. The Boca Raton, Fla. based JCC was the host of this year’s events, which welcomed thousands of teens ages 13-16 from around the world to take part in friendly competition that promotes health, physical fitness and Jewish culture.

The JCC Maccabi Games began in 1982 in order to provide Jewish youth with a supportive environment that promotes sportsmanship and respect in a fun, culturally rich atmosphere. Since its inception, more than 120,000 teenagers have competed in the games. Levis JCC Associate Executive Director Cindy Bergman says Winn-Dixie stepped up to the plate to support the development of Jewish youth.

“It’s with the support of corporate neighbors like Winn-Dixie that these young athletes can travel here and compete in the games,” she said. “Our ongoing partnership with Winn-Dixie is exemplary, and we were able to showcase it to thousands of national and international visitors.”

From Aug 10 - 15, competitors vied for gold, silver and bronze medals in a variety of single and team sporting events, including baseball, basketball, golf, tennis, flag football and more. Winn-Dixie helped support the thousands of athletes, host families and event staff by providing snacks and refreshments throughout the week-long tournament. Winn-Dixie store No. 355 Store Director Cory Weissman applauded the young competitors.

“It’s extraordinary to show families from around the world that Winn-Dixie supports a treasured tradition such as the Levis JCC Maccabi Games,” he said. “These exceptional young athletes traveled far and wide to showcase their talents, and it’s an honor to help them enjoy their fun-filled week.”
