Cindy Rapshus, Southeastern Grocers Director of Floral and 2015 Go Red For Woman Chair, speaks about the importance of winning this battle of heart disease.​

Winn-Dixie partnered with the American Heart Association to turn Jacksonville, Florida red on Friday, June 5 by hosting their Go Red For Women Luncheon. This annual celebration helps grow heart health education and awareness for all women within the community.

The American Heart Association’s hope is to “improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20 percent while reducing deaths from cardiovascular diseases and stroke by 20 percent.”

Winn-Dixie was the presenting sponsor of the Go Red For Women Luncheon, where representatives passed out cutting boards, reusable bags, water bottles and shopping lists. Attendees also had the opportunity to win free groceries for a year, receiving $10 of their next $100 purchase just for entering.

Southeastern Grocers chefs also hosted a breakout session of “What’s in your Kitchen?” This ‘Eat Fresh’ demonstration, hosted by Corporate Chef Deanna Stephens and Corporate Training Chefs Dominick Mullins and Tim Haire. The chefs introduced attendees to “Moc Guac,” a healthy guacamole made from primarily from asparagus.

Southeastern Grocers Director of Floral and 2015 Go Red For Woman Chair Cindy Rapshus spoke during the luncheon about how important it is that every woman knows, understands and survives heart disease.

“I urge everyone to advocate for healthier hearts, starting with your own. Take small steps and you will experience big outcomes,” Rapshus said. “Today, at least five women in this room will be advised to seek further medical attention and address a cardiovascular issue. One or two of you may need to be transported for emergency care.”
