The Boys and Girls Club gives its CARE (Children Are Reason for Excellence) Award to companies that go above and beyond the call of duty to support the organization’s local chapters. This year, Winn-Dixie received the award for the company’s contributions to numerous Boys and Girls Clubs throughout the Sunshine State.

Some 37 out of 40 Boys and Girls Club chapters from around Florida attended the organization’s annual Florida Area Council and Alliance Meetings as Winn-Dixie was given the honor of the award on Aug. 25.

Dan Glenn, director of Winn-Dixie store No. 397 in Palm Beach, Florida, accepted the award on behalf of Winn-Dixie.

“It was an honor for me to accept this award on behalf of Winn-Dixie and take part in this special event,” he said. “By providing our Boys and Girls Clubs with the resources they need to further their mission, we are building partnerships that help strengthen communities for our customers and neighbors.”

One of the chapters to nominate Winn-Dixie was Boys and Girls Club of Miami-Dade. Throughout the past 12 months, Winn-Dixie has been a resource to the club, providing items to support yearly fundraising events that have raised more than $500,000. According to Boys and Girls Club of Miami-Dade Executive Director Alex Rodriguez-Roig, those funds have allowed the club to provide quality summer and after school programs to reach more children in Miami-Dade county.

“The Boys and Girls Club wanted to show our heartfelt gratitude toward Winn-Dixie for being a model corporate citizen and supporting the work our organization does on a daily basis,” he said. “It’s with the help of Winn-Dixie that we are able to provide the thousands of children we serve with opportunities to learn the building blocks of becoming the future leaders of our community.”
