Alabama Winn-Dixie stores in Birmingham and Montgomery raised more than $124,000 through in-store sales of Glenwood’s pecans during the fall. The proceeds from this fundraiser were presented to the Glenwood Autism and Behavioral Health Center at its 11th Annual “A Night Under the Big Top” gala in February.

More than 800 people attended the organization’s gala event, which included a silent auction in conjunction with local partners and artists, live music and black-tie casino party. Winn-Dixie’s Birmingham-area stores’ District Director Jim Rossetti and Store Director Adam Noda were invited on stage during the opening remarks by Glenwood Autism and Behavioral Health Center President and CEO Lee Yount and Chief Development Officer Linda Baker to present a Winn-Dixie check for $124,276 to the organization.

“It was a wonderful experience,” said Rossetti. “We are proud to partner with this notable organization and the great work they continue do in Alabama.”

With one in every 68 children getting diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Glenwood Autism and Behavioral Health Centerprovides behavioral health care and educational services for individuals with Autism and severe emotional disturbances in Alabama.

Supporting hunger relief, education and organizations such as Glenwood Autism and Behavioral Health Center is important to our customers, neighbors, families and friends,” said Drew Elkins, Winn-Dixie Montgomery region vice president. “We strive to be a neighborhood grocer, not just by providing food and products to our customers, but also by actively involving ourselves in the community and developing relationships outside of the grocery store.”

Winn-Dixie Montgomery region ambassadors for this cause hope to continue to expand in-store participation in other locations throughout the coming years.
