BI-LO Chef Tim Haire gives cooking tips on how holiday cooking can be done easily.

BI-LO deepened its connections with Savannah, Georgia in November when it participated in the community’s second annual Savannah Food & Wine Festival as corporate sponsor and official supermarket.

Last year, the festival debuted with celebrity chef dinners, wine tastings and an outdoor extravaganza that Savannah had never seen. The event raised funds for the city’s Tourism Leadership Council while raising the culinary profile of the city.

This year, BI-LO participated in three days of festival events. BI-LO Corporate Training Chefs took part in the festival on Nov. 13 for the Le Grand Cochon, hog roast. They prepared traditional Southern side dishes with an international twist, preparing maple smoked macaroni and cheese, collards braise in Indian Pale Ale and banana pudding tiramisu. Festival attendees enjoyed all the food, but the macaroni and cheese had everyone coming back for seconds and requesting the recipe.

On Nov. 14, BI-LO hosted a display tent on the festival’s River Street Stroll. A popular sample item was BI-LO’s Signature Triple Layer Chocolate Cake.

BI-LO Chefs hosted a “Holiday Entertaining Made Easy,” seminar in the event’s VIP lounge Nov. 15. Chefs Walden and Haire also held panel discussions to discuss unique twists on traditional holiday dishes and other BI-LO tips that can help make holiday cooking less stressful.

“As BI-LO Training Chefs, we are able to bring local heritage to life in many different ways while also sharing our vast culinary skills,” Chef Haire said. “We always enjoy the opportunity to show the community different ways that BI-LO can help bring new life to classic meals.”
