Carnaval Miami 2015 culminated as thousands of event goers filled the Winn-Dixie Family Fun Zone during the 38th Annual Calle Ocho Festival.

Winn-Dixie built on the 20-year partnership with the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana and continued to show that customers and their communities come first while celebrating “Sabor en Familia” (Family Flavors) during Carnaval Miami 2015.

Winn-Dixie kicked-off this year’s festivities with a month-long series of community events, including Mini-Calle Ocho celebrations in four Miami-area stores. Other events included the 33rdAnnual Winn-Dixie Carnaval Miami 5K and the Winn-Dixie Carnaval Miami Cooking Contest. It all culminated in festivities at the Winn-Dixie Family Fun Zone during the 38thAnnual Calle Ocho Festival.

“We are proud to be an integral part of Carnaval Miami and support the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana in making a difference in the community,” said Tony Jorges, Winn-Dixie Miami region vice president. “Along with creating meaningful connections through the events we take part in, our partnership with the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana helps fund programs that will benefit thousands of underprivileged kids in South Florida.”

Throughout February and March, Winn-Dixie’s Mini Calle Ocho events featured cooking demonstrations with celebrity Chef Pepin and Chef Minerva Vazquez, who joined customers in building the excitement for Calle Ocho. On March 1, Winn-Dixie joined more than 700 South Florida runners to promote health and wellness as they raced down the legendary Calle Ocho (Southwest 8thStreet) in Miami’s Little Havana during the 33rdAnnual Winn-Dixie Carnaval Miami 5K.

The celebration of family flavors continued March 5 as Winn-Dixie store No. 251 was filled with more than 150 customers, community leaders, students and teachers as they cheered on their favorite contestants during the Winn-Dixie Carnaval Miami Cooking Contest, which featured recipes highlighted with Winn-Dixie own brand products. A panel of celebrity judges, including Store Director Eliu Cubas and Kiwanis of Little Havana president Tony Lorenzo, named Aventura resident Yana Yarosh, and her Super Juicy Meatloaf Minis recipe, the $1,000 grand prize winner.

Carnaval Miami 2015 culminated with the 38thAnnual Calle Ocho Festival on March 15, where thousands of event goers visited the Winn-Dixie Family Fun Zone. As part of the largest Hispanic street festival in the country, families spent the afternoon enjoying cooking demonstrations and interactive games with celebrity Chef Pepin, delicious food samplings from Winn-Dixie and vendors, testing their courage on the rock wall, getting creative with unique face painting and taking selfies in the Winn-Dixie photo booth.
