The ninth Statesboro, Georgia Boys & Girls Club Steak and Burger Dinner, sponsored by BI-LO, kicked off with a special appearance by legendary University of Georgia football coach Vince Dooley and his wife Barbara Dooley.

The pair stole the audiences’ heart as Barbara Dooley spoke about the club and the impact it has on the community. By the end of her stage time, Barbara Dooley had the crowd singing along to Stevie Wonder’s “I Just Called to Say I Love You,” as she delivered the message to enjoy life, love one another, and realize that we are all loved.

The annual event brings donors and members together and gives attendees a chance to hear, from members’ perspectives on how the Boys & Girls Club has influenced their life and helped them to succeed.

The Boys & Girls Club has been established in the community for 13 years and continues to grow each year. “The club is an important part of the community as we help children succeed academically and socially,” stated Boys & Girls Club Executive Director Mike Jones.

As the presenting sponsor of the dinner, BI-LO, supplied food and several associates attended, as did District Director Brian Shillinglaw.

“Our team is always excited to participate in community events, but the Boys & Girls Club is one of those organizations that gives so much back to our customers and community that our team is thrilled to support their local events each year,” said Shillinglaw.

More than 250 supporters attended the event.
